A View From The Peak

When the Genglers were visiting I hoped for a "clear" day to see Hong Kong from The Peak. The morning was clear as can be but by the afternoon (when they returned from their excursion to Beijing) it became a bit hazy...Still - it is an amazing view and thought I'd share it. At 552 meters above sea level, the Peak is the highest mountain on Hong Kong Island. The Peak Tram is a tramcar that takes you up the side of the mountain at quite a slope. In the 19th century, it was a natural signaling post for incoming cargo ships, but more privileged early residents also found it to be a good place to escape the Hong Kong scorching summer heat. Many different wealthy individuals have built their homes there and there once was a hotel there as well. Unfortunately, that was destroyed in a fire in the 1930s. It now attracts over 7 million tourists/visitors each year.
